About Safe Haven

Learn more about the foundation

Safe Haven Foundation is a non-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Public Health, Sint Maarten and Sint Maarten Development Fund (SMDF), the shelter is a sanctuary for women and their minor children in need of a safe space to escape domestic abuse conditions and gain access to benefits like legal advice and psychosocial support services.

Safe Haven was founded in 1998 with the goal of providing women and their children temporary living space, so they may feel protected, no longer fear for their wellbeing and gain insight on their alternatives to create the life that they aspire. We first started with a small staff and the desire to create a wholesome community. Today, we operate the only shelter on Dutch Sint Maarten and have the privilege to serve the brave survivors that break the silence and reach out for support regardless of the adversities they might face.

The foundation is run by a group of discreet women dedicated to overseeing the overall execution of the mission of Safe Haven with the interests of all stakeholders. The leaders of Safe Haven Board and Team are committed to working with survivors of domestic abuse and intimate partner violence to provide personalized care in line with individual needs and constant opportunities for growth in a nourishing and caring environment.

We maintain strong working relationships with judicial organizations and social support services within the chain of domestic violence partners. They are the driving force behind the services provided at Safe Haven and its continuous efforts to assist families that face challenges and road blocks in achieving peace and long-term stability.

Our 24-Hour Hotline 9333 is at your disposal for help or more information.

Our mission is to reach out to people, not just women and children, but also male survivors, who are being affected by these crimes and to show them that they are loved and deserve to live a life free from violence and abuse.

We provide compassionate, confidential and reliable services. The staff at the Safe Haven shelter provide survivors hope to heal from trauma and the injustice they have been subjected to. We are the voice that speaks up for those who are suffering in silence and advocating to bring an end to domestic violence.
